Privacy Policy
This policy applies to hireneewu.com, the Reddit Talk Highlights Chrome extension, and related backend services operated by Renee Wu.
Summary
Reddit Talk Highlights helps you analyze public Reddit post comments (top comments and word-frequency style summaries). When you click Analyze or Download, the extension sends the URL of your active tab to our server. We do not sell your personal data.
What the extension collects and sends
- Reddit post URL (you initiate): From the currently active browser tab when you use the popup. This is sent to our backend to fetch and analyze public comments for that post.
- Analysis results: The server returns aggregated results (for example top comments and bigram counts) displayed in the popup, or an Excel file when you download.
The extension does not require you to create an account. It does not read your Reddit password or private messages.
What we do not collect
- Full browsing history or background tracking of tabs
- Data from pages you never ask to analyze
- Advertising profiles or sale of personal information to data brokers
Website analytics (hireneewu.com)
When you browse hireneewu.com (articles, company research pages, and public SaaS data tools), we use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregated usage statistics—for example pages viewed, approximate geography, device/browser type, and how you arrived at the site (referrer). Google may use cookies or similar technologies on your device. We use these insights to understand readership and improve the site; we do not use Analytics data to sell personal information. Google’s processing is described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can limit tracking with browser add-ons or Google’s opt-out tools.
Backend processing
Analysis runs on Google Cloud (Cloud Functions), endpoint: https://us-south1-reddit-talk-highlights.cloudfunctions.net/reddit-talk-highlights. The service uses the post URL you provide to retrieve and process public Reddit content needed for the feature. Server logs may temporarily include URLs and technical error information for reliability and abuse prevention; we do not use them for advertising.
Permissions
- activeTab — read the URL of the tab you are on when you open the extension and start analysis (only after your click).
- Host permission (our API) — connect to the analysis and download endpoints listed above.
Third parties
- Google Chrome Web Store — distribution; governed by Google’s policies.
- Google Cloud — hosts the analysis API.
- Google Analytics — website traffic measurement on hireneewu.com (see above).
- Reddit — public posts and comments belong to Reddit’s platform; your use of Reddit remains subject to Reddit’s terms and policies.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy when the extension or backend changes. The “Last updated” date will reflect revisions. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
